London Tournament Recap
For the past decade the ABUA GB has been honoured to support the Croydon Pirates during the London Tournament
by providing umpires for what has become one of the major events on the baseball calendar. In 2011 Croydon celebrated 30 years as a club and, as in previous years hosted the London Tournament. ABUA GB was happy to help in any way to ensure this year's tournament was the best ever to assist Croydon in celebrating their anniversary year.
The London Tournament has become an international event and so the ABUA GB thought they would invite some fellow umpires from the ABUA Austria to make it a truly international event. The ABUA GB were pleased when the ABUA A accepted the our invitation and provided 2 umpires to join our crew for the weekend. With ten umpires 8 worked both days and 2 worked a day ech which gave the tournament 9 umpires working each day.
A total of 30 games were played, 15 each day, 28 of the games were covered by a 2 man crew, 1 man game coverage when all five diamonds were being played . The Finals were covered by a 4 man crew. An amazing 61 umpires assigned over the two day event. The umpires worked hard all weekend and did so in a professional manner.
To truly appreciate what the ABUA GB did over the weekend, it shouldd be known that the umpires recieved no compensation or payments including travel fees, this also includes our colleagues from Austria. The umpires worked to for the love of the game and to make sure the Croydon Pirates baseball club had quality game officials for their well run tournamnet.
The ABUA GB would like to thank the following ABUA GB umpires for their sacrifices and dedication over the weekend
Geoff Hare, Eddie Fannon, Thomas Haywood, Dave Smith, Darik Miles, Petter Nordwall, Jeremy Cain and our leader Darrin Muller
The ABUA GB would also like to thank the ABUA Austria for their support
Sacha Pammesberger and Thomas Hartman
The ABUA GB would also like to congratulate Dave Ward on having the main diamond officially renamed "Dave Ward Field" for his many years of dedication to his club and to the game of baseball. A truly well deserved recognition.
The ABUA GB has always put the interests of the BBF Membership first and this tournament proved this once again and we hope the players and the everyone who came to watch appreciates what it is like to have quality game officials working BBF games.
We are looking forward to next year already
